Rebecca and I were both competitive athletes earlier in our lives. So, we decided to put our athletic abilities to the test in the Hawaiian Olympics. Originally, there were 5 events scheduled:
1) Bocce Ball
2) Tennis
3) Shuffle Board
4) Golf/Putting
5) Swimming
None of these sports are really in my wheel house. Rebecca played a high level of badminton and was only a few fractions of a second away from qualifying for the Olympic Team in swimming. So, my break down, before hand, was something like this: Bocce Ball would be a toss up, well, because it is Bocce Ball. Tennis would go to her. Shuffle Board would be another toss up, because, well, it is Shuffle Board. I was hoping to win at Golf and Swimming would clearly be her event (however, we did race earlier in the week and while it was a short pool without any turns, I held my own and very well may have beaten her...).
To find out what happened in the Amatuer Olympics check out the photos below.
(Everyone was all smiles as we began our day)
(The place we stayed had everything we needed and her dad had a few tennis rackets as well as a golf club and some golf balls)
(The day began with Bocce Ball...)
(Here was our view as we played our game)
(An 11-3 first game set the tone and I came away victorious in a 2-0 sweep in Bocce Ball)
(Rebecca was a bit disheartened but not down and out. She still had Tennis, Shuffle Board, and Swimming...)
TEAM CANADA 0 - TEAM USA 1
(I have no idea why this shot was taken, perhaps because of the color?)
(This is the view pool side. However, the second event was to be Tennis. I think she wanted to keep Swimming in her pocket in case we were tied 2-2 going into the last event.)
(This is her telling me I am going down...)
(Still chirping in her action photo - you can see the ball at the top...)
(After losing 5 straight games we decided there wasn't a need to play any more sets. Again, a bit disheartened but still not out of it...)
TEAM CANADA 0 - TEAM USA 2
(In an attempt to regroup and pull it together she had a quick dip before moving on to our 3rd event...)
(Shuffle board)
(She was once again feeling confident and looking for her first victory. Also, without a win Team Canada would be officially eliminated from any chance of the outright Olympic medal count.)
(For me, business as usual. I will admit, she was in the lead for a majority of the game...)
(However, it's not how you start...)
(... it's how you finish)
(My 'gold' medal as I had officially won the Olympics)
TEAM CANADA 0 - TEAM USA 3
(The Olympics had been determined; however, we did decide to golf, in hopes Team Canada could pull off a win.)
(A chance to win it... Oh so close...)
TEAM CANADA 0 - TEAM USA 4
(With golf complete and only 1 event left, both of us decided we save swimming for another day. This completed our Olympic endeavors.)
