Day 2 - Cheddar Box and Date Day

Our morning began is search of coffee, as most mornings on this trip did.  We walked down to the Blue Dog Bakery, a place highly recommend by our hosts.  Sadly, upon arriving, there was a note on the door stating they were closed.  Later in the week we had found out the owner's mother had passed away.  So, we continued walking down the street in search of coffee and some breakfast.  I saw a hair salon and popped inside.  I told the woman working we were out of town and looking for a place to eat.  She stopped cutting the woman's hair she was working on and told us about 2 places to go.  She was really sweet and also gave us coupons and told us, 'If you have a free day and need a haircut stop back in and see me again!'  The second, called the Cheddar Box, on St. Matthews was where we decided to try our luck.

We arrived after a short adventure at the Cheddar Box.  Dean, our spunky 60 year old server informed us she had 3 dogs and was looking for a man to share her life with.  When asked about food selection we were told, 'The pancakes are the best you'll ever eat!'  I was in the mood for eggs benedict and so inquired with which she responded, 'I don't much care for eggs benedict, but from what everyone says it's the best Hollandaise sauce in town.'  I haven't had any other Hollandaise sauce in Louisville but the eggs benedict was damn delicious.  From there we explored St. Matthews a bit before coming home and trying to figure out our Saturday night plans.

We were looking for live music and after a chat with her friends who spent time in Louisville we were no closer to figuring anything out for the evening.  So, I made an executive decision and decided on 'Date Night' with a final stop in the Dark Star  to hear the Pranksters play.  Date night, fellas, is a fantastic idea and one of my favorite date plans.  You go to 3 different restaurants.  You order an appetizer at the first, a main meal at the second, and dessert at the third.  It's a great way to get a feel for different restaurants and also something a bit different.

As we were leaving the final restaurant it started snowing.  There was only a 30% chance and somehow it happened.  Magical.  We finished our night out at the Dark Star playing pool, chatting, and listening to the Pranksters.  Upon arriving home we had a bit more fun with our hosts before calling it a night.  Here are a few of the photos from Date Day...

(Rebecca as we were getting ready to leave)

(So, Harrisburg has cow statues, Louisville has horse statues)

(Here's another horse as we made our way down to our first stop)

(Here's the Dark Star where we would stop latter in the evening)

(A fire house)

(Sari Sari and El Mundo, side by side, our second and third stops respectively)

(We began Date Day at the Irish Rover)

(It was a bit cold outside and as I came in the lens on the camera had fogged up a bit)

(The wait was 15 to 20 minutes so we decided to go and grab a coffee)

(Inside the coffee shop there was a little ditty about each of the employees.  This woman took her picture with a chicken.)

(Rebecca was having fun with the camera and apparently I was making faces)

(There was a bit of time before our food came - Salmon Potato Balls, which were delicious - so we played a game of hang man, drew jacks, and wrote what we would sign on our receipts were we servers.)

(Sari Sari, a Filipino restaurant, was our second stop for the evening and will always hold a special place in my heart.  It's the first place I told Rebecca I loved her.)

(This was Tony, our server, who was quite the character and chatted with us for a while after everyone left)

(Just liked the colors on this shot)

(We ordered the pineapple seafood curry and it was delightful!  The beans were amazing.)

(Our third and final stop was a Mexican restaurant called El Mundo)

(The inside was rather colorful and they popped)

(A few more of the colors)

(We ordered Flan and drinks for each other)

 (The flan was quite tasty)

(Rebecca liked the address and so she took a photo)

(Rebecca is also a spiller.  This tends to happen at least once during our Skype Dates and happened a few times while we were in Louisville.)

(I'm alright with that...  we also took a few photos of the mess...)

(The cooks are busy, don't ask them!)

(We made our way to the Dark Star amidst snow fall)

(Beautiful woman with a bit of snow in her hair)

 (Rebecca shooting pool)

(So, I went up to the bar to order more drinks and the bartender told me the draught just kicked and he'd have to bleed the line and do something else.  I said let's just make your life easy and give me 2 bottles.  So, he also gave me the last of the draught, which is why I am holding 3 drinks.)

(Me shooting pool.  Rebecca kicked my butt!)

 (The Pranksters in the background)

(This photo, as I was informed, was one we had to have because, 'Justin, come tomorrow morning, you are going to want to remember this chair.'  And so here is a photo of the chair we sat is as we shot pool.)

(I asked a stranger for some advice as I was shooting)

(The same horse from earlier with a bit of snow)

(A random glove)

(Somehow we ended up exploring down an ally and ended up in someone's back porch)

(The corner of Frankfort and Bayly)

(The other horse with a bit of snowfall)

(A Baptist church where we had discussed going to service the following morning but didn't because we didn't make it to bed until a bit later in the evening.)

(So, we arrive back at our hosts place and there's a knock at the door.  She informed us that it was Saturday night and that they like to stay up and party a little on Saturdays.  If they got too loud we should let them know or we could join them.  Of course, we joined them!  We ended up drinking 100 proof bourbon, seeing our hosts dance together, dancing with our hosts, and a 'Justin Bieber' hat make an appearance.  My favorite line from the escapade - 'You know it's a good night when everyone is dancing on the rock wall!'  Here's a photo of someone on the rock wall, a little blurry so it's hard to tell who it is...)
