Date Night (Hawaiian Style)

Date night is a tradition that started in Louisville and has continued for most of our trips.  Unfortunately, I do not think we were able to do a 'Date Night' in Calgary.  However, for those of you that have read the blog, you know we usually go to one place for an appetizer, another for dinner, and a third for dessert.  Well, on this occasion we skipped dessert in order to see the sunset.  Plus, we were both stuffed.

We started the evening at Monkeypod, a unique restaurant that has Happy Hour from 3:30 to 5:30 I believe.  I heard about the place from my mom who just loved their pumpkin ravioli and even gave me a bit of cash to enjoy the evening.  She also recommended the drinks but seeing as how I was driving I did not partake.  We ordered a mushroom pizza with truffle oil (all Pizzas were also half off during Happy Hour) as well as the pumpkin ravioli.  Rebecca got a drink of sorts.  The food was phenomenal.  So good, in fact, we went back our last night in Hawaii to enjoy once more.

After the Monkeypod (I know, that should have been enough food) we ended up at Gannon's Red Bar.  Again, there were food and drink specials, this time 3 to 8 I believe.  The food was decent but I would highly recommend the Monkeypod over Gannon's.  Then again, Gannon's did have a larger selection.  We ended up with wings, crab cake sliders, and Kung Pao Calamari.  Nothing stood out.  Both locations had a great view and we were able to take an evening stroll after our meal.  Enjoy the photos...

(Rebecca before Date Night begins - usually she gets pretty excited...)

 (Monkeypod)

(Oh, now she is excited...)

(I think she was just having fun with the camera...)

(Her drink, which I forget what it was...)

(The pumpkin ravioli was simple yet delicious with spinach and a light pesto sauce on top with some sort of special cheese - I don't know, I'm not the foodie...)

(Mushroom pizza with truffle oil on top)

(A little waterfall outside of the Monkeypod)

(Tons of birds at Gannon's just waiting to snatch your food.  Here is one of them in action...)

(If you were there for Happy Hour seating was limited to a select few locations.  Fortunately we had a great seat with a great view.  Here's the menu.)

(Rebecca got a ginger drink of sorts and I had a beer)

(Kung Pao Calamari, Wings, and crab cake sliders)

(Somebody is plotting something evil...)

(We have the trifecta shish kabob of all shish kabobs with calamari, a slider, and a wing, all on the same stick...)

(Rebecca was pretty proud of herself...)

(You can see me enthusiasm seeing as how I was the one who had to eat this creation...)

(Luckily, it didn't have to go in all at once...)

(Only a few bites to go...)

(Birds just hanging out on our table)

(We saw this totem and of course we had to try and copy the face)

(Rebecca is preparing herself to get mean...)

(And this is her best effort...)

(View as we made our way down to the Wailea Beach Path)

(Just in time for sunset...)

(A panoramic view)

(We tried to take our own photo which turned out ok)

(And then a nice gentleman offered to take a photo for us...)

(Another nice view of the sunset...)

(We ended up in one of those little wagonesque devices to finish watching the sunset so we were able to kick back, relax, and enjoy!)

(2 Happy Love Birds)

(We came across this sight as we continued on the path)

(Pretty lit up at night with the luaus)

(Passed a few of these creatures as we made our way back to the car)

(We stopped at a pond that had a ton of frogs/toads in it)
