Halong Bay, Vietnam

After our time in Cambodia, we headed to Vietnam and made our way North to Halong Bay.  It is one of the current 7 natural wonders of the world and we ended up on a 2 day, 1 night trip.  If I had to do it over again, I would probably take a 3 day, 2 night trip just to enjoy it.  The whole trip ended up being around 24 hours.  We got on the boat, had lunch, went to a cave, went kayaking, back to the boat for our 'cooking class,' went to sleep, woke up and had breakfast and made our way back to the dock, seeing the bay and some awesome rock formations on our way back.  It was peaceful and one of my favorite places in SE Asia.    When booking a tour package, be careful.  If anything says time permitting, you are not going to do it.  Here are a few of the photos...

(This was our boat during our time in Halong Bay - the Poseidon)

(Here I am on the upper deck)

(Food was all you could eat, decent, but it was not gourmet)

(Some of the many beautiful rock formations found throughout the bay)

(Another one)

(This is the view from the caves and the area we went kayaking around)

(A woman selling her wares.  It wasn't that expensive to get drinks on the boat but these ladies would see things even cheaper... however, our boat asked that we please not buy from the ladies.)

(Me in the cave)

(A few of the formations in the cave - it was huge!)

(Another formation, and I am not quite sure why, but this picture looks like it's upside down)

(Hopefully this photo gives you an idea on the size of the cave)

(Or this one - it was quite the experience with 3 separate rooms, this final one being the largest)

(As we were getting ready to leave)

(On our way back to the boat we saw this guy)

(Time for some kayaking - unfortunately, due to the water, I didn't take the camera with, so we only have a few photos of the rental shop)

(This is another view of the same place)

(Here are a few more of the kayaking businesses)

(I forget to mention, after kayaking, we got to go swimming on a beach.  It would have been nice if it wasn't as busy, but the view was amazing!)

(Coming out of the water, not sure what's happening with my face)

(The sun is starting to go down...)

(For our cooking class, we learned how to make spring rolls.  Put the ingredients in the roll and eat - it was disappointing to say the least, especially after the cooking class we took in Thailand.)

(Night time on the bay - the government made a law requiring all boats to stay in the same area in the evenings, so this is what you get...)

(The next morning, making our way back to the dock)

(A view of the sail, which we never used)

(Another formation)

(And another...)

(There was also a fishing village we passed on the way back)
